The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Chin Min Yee and Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin from Department of New Energy Science and Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for their recent research article published in Journal of Cleaner Production, an SCI Q1 journal with the latest impact factor of 11.1.

The paper entitled Developing a sustainability solid waste treatment portfolio for 3Ps (planet-prosperity-people) nexus introduces a graphical portfolio, namely a 3D sustainability portfolio, for the 3Ps nexus, which can be universally implemented in various regions to quantitatively assess the life cycle sustainability of solid waste facilities compared to the business-as-usual scenario. This portfolio integrates life cycle assessment (for the environmental dimension), life cycle costing (for the economic dimension), and social life cycle assessment (for the social dimension), providing a holistic approach without favouring or applying weighting to any particular dimension. Instead, policymakers are encouraged to identify an optimal solution among the three dimensions when selecting waste management options. The study examines the life cycle sustainability of policy-targeted municipal solid waste (MSW) management scenarios in Malaysia. The paper concludes by offering policy and managerial recommendations to promote the development of sustainable MSW management.
