A Night of Glitz and Gratitude: Postgraduates Channel the Roaring Twenties for Christmas

December 19, 2025

LAKEFRONT CAFÉ – The Postgraduate Student Council (PGSC) transported students back to the era of jazz and elegance on December 18, 2025, hosting “The Gatsby Night Christmas Event.” The evening served as a festive finale to the year, bringing together 46 postgraduate students and staff for a night defined by “old sport” charm and holiday spirit.

Retro Glamour Meets Festive Cheer

The Lakefront Café was reimagined with the sophisticated aesthetic of the Great Gatsby era. The themed transformation provided a stylish backdrop for attendees to unwind after a rigorous academic year. The night wasn’t just about the décor, however; it was designed to bridge the gap between departments and foster a tighter-knit postgraduate community.

Highlights of the Evening

The celebration featured a mix of high-energy competition and heartfelt reflection:

  • The Gatsby Challenge: Guests engaged in themed Kahoot games, sparking friendly rivalries and testing their knowledge of the era.
  • Melodic Moments: A lively karaoke session saw students stepping out of their academic shells to showcase their musical talents.
  • A Tree of Hope: In one of the night’s most poignant segments, participants contributed to a “Christmas Tree Poster,” pinning up New Year’s wishes and aspirations for 2026.
  • The Final Dance: The event reached its crescendo with an energetic dance session, ending the night on a high-spirited note.

Strengthening the Community

Beyond the music and costumes, the true success of the night lay in the connections made. A spokesperson for the PGSC noted that the event was a “memorable and uplifting occasion” that successfully strengthened camaraderie within the postgraduate body.

As the year draws to a close, the PGSC expressed gratitude to all who attended and signaled their commitment to hosting more community-building events in the coming year.
