From 23 to 24 November 2023, Xiamen University Malaysia co-organised the 2nd Research Management and Administration Symposiumtogether with Malaysia Association of Research Managers and Administrators (MyRMA).
Themed “Nurturing Professionalism in Research Management”, the symposium was held under the support of the Department of Higher Education Malaysia, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, and welcomed more than 100 participants from 10 countries.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Ir. Dr. Shaliza Ibrahim, the founding president of MyRMA and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of Malaya. XMUM Vice President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhang Ying and XMUM Assistant President, Prof. Dr. Wang Hui-Qiong also presented in the opening ceremony.
The symposium’s highlight was the keynote address delivered by Prof. Cheryl de la Rey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Prof. de la Rey captivated the audience with her insightful discourse on the evolving landscape of research management within universities, shedding light on emerging trends and best practices.

Following the keynote speech, the symposium delved into Research Management Training modules, focusing on fostering good governance in research and underscoring the essential skills required for personnel in research management centers. Three sub-themes guided these sessions, namely Humanizing Research Management, Responsible Reporting, and Research Impact, facilitating comprehensive discussions on pertinent issues in the field.
