On 14 June 2025, the WFCMS International Forum on Smart TCM and the 2025 Annual Conference of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) Specialty Committee of Tongue Research was held at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). Co-organized by WFCMS and XMUM School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the event welcomed over 230 experts and scholars from China and Malaysia.
Under the theme “Smart Traditional Chinese Medicine”, the forum focused on key areas such as AI-assisted tongue diagnosis, intelligent image recognition, database development, and the digital transformation of traditional diagnostic methods. Discussions emphasized the integration of traditional knowledge with emerging technologies, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The opening ceremony featured speeches by Prof. Wang Ruifang (President of XMUM), Dr. Goh Cheng Soon (Ministry of Health Malaysia), Prof. Li Wei (XMU), Prof. Jiao Yundong (WFCMS), and Prof. Wang Yanhui (WFCMS Tongue Committee). Prof. Chen Shaodong, Dean of XMUM’s TCM School and Chair of the Tongue Committee, delivered the keynote address on advancing tongue diagnosis through innovation and collaboration.
Several XMUM faculty members contributed actively to the event. Dr. Kim Yun Jin moderated the opening and delivered a featured talk. Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang served as Deputy Secretary-General and chaired the third session, while Dr. Hea Ai Sim and Dr. Lim Chee Hoong chaired earlier sessions.
This was the first time XMUM hosted an international academic conference in collaboration with the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. The event provided a platform for academic exchange in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and contributed to ongoing efforts in exploring digital and intelligent approaches to traditional practices.
