The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Prof. Ir. Dr. Yong Wai Fen from the Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, for being awarded the Distinguished Women Scientist Award at the 2nd International Congress on Separation and Purification Technology 2024 (ISPT 2024).
Held from 7-11 July 2024 in Zhengzhou, China, ISPT 2024 provides a forum for global-leading researchers, scientists, and engineers in academia, national laboratories, industry, and government organizations to present and discuss their latest developments on Separation and Purification Technology.
The ISPT 2024 Distinguished Women Scientist Award recognizes exceptional female scientists who have made significant contributions to advancing techniques and technologies in the field of separation and purification in chemical and environmental engineering. This award highlights their achievements, encourages more women to pursue careers in this field, and promotes innovation and sustainability in chemical and environmental engineering.
The panel was highly impressed by Prof. Ir. Dr. Yong’s exceptional work in developing sustainable materials and membrane technologies. Her contributions to biogas separation, industrial air purification, haze removal, air quality control, and water purification were particularly noteworthy.
About Prof. Ir. Dr. Yong Wai Fen
Ir. Dr. Yong Wai Fen is a Professor and Head of Programmes (Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering) at School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia. She received her PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from National University of Singapore in 2014 and continued working as a postdoctoral fellow until 2017. Her research interests focus on sustainable, green materials, and membrane technologies for biogas separation, CO2 capture, industrial air purification and water purification to promote renewable energy and environmental sustainability. She received several prestigious awards, including the 2023 World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University, Green Talents and being named one of the Top 50 outstanding Green Talents alumni from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
