From 30 August to 2 September 2025, the China-ASEAN College of Marine Science (CAMS) at Xiamen University Malaysia hosted a delegation from Instirut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University, Indonesia, marking the latest progress in the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions in marine science education and research.
The visit was held as a part of the 2025 XMU@Sea Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee (R/V TKK) Leg III-IV exchange and summer course program – the IPB delegation travelled abroad the R/V TKK from Indonesia to Malaysia before joining a series of academic and laboratory activities organized by CAMS at XMUM.
The visit began with a welcoming session and mock signing of a MoU between both instituitions, represented by Prof. Dr. Wang Huiqiong, the Assistant President of XMUM, and Prof. Dr. Luky Adrianto, the Director of International Research Institute for Maritime, Ocean and Fisheries of IPB University. The event symbolized a mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in marine science education and research.
During the two-day visit, faculty members shared research presentations and held a roundtable discussion on future collaboration in ocean science, marine biotechnology, and ecosystem management. Meanwhile, students took part in hands-on laboratory activities, including microscopy work, resin embedding demonstrations, and specimen observation in CAMS’s teaching laboratories.
“This visit has deepened our partnership with IPB University and fostered valuable exchanges between our academic communities,” said Prof. Dr. Luo Yawei, Deputy Dean of CAMS. “We look forward to expanding joint research and training programs in the coming years.”
Earlier this year, both institutions carried out several collaborative initiatives.
In January 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kustiariyah Tarman delivered a research presentation at the Xiamen Marine Annual Symposium (XMAS 2025) in China, held by Xiamen University.
In July, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Wei Lun from CAMS delivered lectures during a marine-focused summer course in Indonesia.
In the same month, master’s student Ekaterina Efimova represented CAMS at the 5th International Conference on Integrated Coastal Management and Marine Biotechnology (ICMMBT 2025), an event affiliated with IBP University, where she received the Best Student Presenter Award.
The collaboration is expected to create more opportunities for XMUM students and researchers to participate in regional marine science projects.
